Diez días hasta el Cuerpo de Paz en Costa Rica!

Bienvenidos todos!

After graduating from college, moving back in with the "room mates",  a quick trip back to summer camp,  and over a year long application process; I am finally leaving for the Peace Corps!

I will be serving in Costa Rica for the next 27 months doing Community Economic Development. I could not be more ecstatic about the location and assignment!  A beautiful country filled with rain forests, great people, beaches, and countless kinds of animals and fruits....a country with no army, and a women president?! I am there! I honestly believe that everything happens for a reason, and the reason this process took so long was so I could be in this great place. I am excited to take all of the things I have learned and put them to use to help improve life for at least a few people in Costa Rica. I know it will be a challenge but I am ready for it.

I am leaving on my great adventure in 10 days!! I will fly into Washington D.C. and have a quick "staging" orientation for a day where I will meet the other 43 PCV(Peace Corps Volunteers) in my class that will be serving with me all around Costa Rica. Then, scheduled to leave our hotel October 5th at 2 a.m. (11 pm pst!), we will be flying to San Jose, Costa Rica. From there we will go to a 5 day retreat in the mountains near San Jose. During the retreat we will go over basic cultural norms and language essentials and take a language proficiency test. We will then be split up into different  learning communities for a 10 week orientation. During that time I will move in with a host family and learn cultural, language, and technical skills, and do some social and professional networking. And finally, on December 17th, I will be a sworn in by the american embassy and will move to the community that I will be living and working in for the next two years!

I will try to write on this whenever I can with updates of whats going on in Costa Rica.

Pura Vida,

Michaela
